Do you want to help improve how the Practice works?
Dr
Masharani has just helped to set up a patient participation group. This
is a group consisting of patients of the practice who get together
on an occasional basis to discuss how the practice can be improved. It
is very much a two way dialogue between members of he practice and
patients. From the doctors point of view we hope that the patient
participation group will support us in activities such as health
promotion. If you are interested in joining - contact Sue Irwin, the
practice manager.

Cannabis health risks
The
issue of physical harm from smoking cannabis was previously reported on
this webpage a couple of years ago. The journal about lung diseases,
"Thorax", reported more worrying news about the use of cannabis.

Become an organ donor
You may
have heard in the news, the suggestion that there would be a change in
the system of organ donation so that everybody would be considered a
donor after death unless they opted out. There is nothing to suggest
that this will occur in the near future. Rather than wait for any
changes in the rules why not register as a donor now?

Inappropriate use of Accident and Emergency Services (casualty)
Recent
feedback from the Health Authority suggests that many patients are
inappropriately going to the casualty department for advice and
treatment when the surgery is closed.
The doctors who work in
casualty are trained in accident management rather than general practice

best advice it is always best to call NHS direct on

Patient
satisfaction survey results
In addition
to a repeat of the patient satisfaction surveys independently carried
out over the last 3 years, the Department of Health also carried out an
independent survey of the Practice this year.
Both
surveys proved that we stand head and shoulders above the national
average for the quality of service we provide to our patients.
Our Practice
was featured in the Leicester Mercury recently as our practice came top
or near the top for every aspect of the areas of service tested in the
Department of Health Survey.
